Primary School Visits
Farmer John has been hosting primary school visits since 2005. Some schools have sent classes every year and for them the farm visit has an established place in the school curriculum. The educational work won a LEAF award in 2019 , and they made a short video featured on the home page . He has also been invited into the schools with some of the animals
We try to bring a mix of activities around a topic that the class teacher would like to explore. For this reason, a class visit is more successful if the teacher has been able to come for a pre-visit farm recce! To help with school planning, we have published a breakdown of the school science curriculum by year group. Some activities are seasonal and depend on reasonable weather conditions; generally there are more activities on offer in the autumn term or from late spring into summer. We have listed the popular activities here. You can also find our key policies, including insurance details and risk assessments here.
A typical 2 hour morning visit can finish with the option of eating a packed lunch in the farm classroom or out in the yard on a fine day. Not to miss out, an afternoon visit can begin with an early lunch then launching into an action-packed 2 hours.
The maximum class size is 30 pupils with up to 6 adults assisting (including the teacher). The current availability is shown in the calendar here.
